Although I have known Nina since pre-historic, pre-k days, when dinosaurs and strict-assed teachers roamed the halls of STC, one of my most vivid memories of our friendship is from our 6th or 7th grade at Zobel. Nina taught me a very interseting chant..."Under the Coconut Tree!" Hmm...since this blog invitation came with a warning about under-aged readers, I will refrain from publishing the chant in it's entirety. "Under the coconut tree (what did you do?). That's where she showed it to me (what did she show?)." This is where I stop. Remember, Nins? I'm sure you do.
It was at that moment that I knew we'd be friends for life! Hehehe.
Seriously, though, I am truly grateful to have a friend like Nina - compassionate and caring, smart and witty, strong and independent, yet wacky and great fun to be with!!!
Happy, happy 40th, Nins. May your wildest and most heartfelt dreams come true. It is an honor and a pleasure to be rockin' this juvenile-middle-aged-never-act-your-age-never-surrender boat with you! Hugs, licks, and kisses!!! Love you heaps!
Angie
Sorry Angie! I can;t help but give you the complete lyrics to coconut (Doug, I don't know how you will keep the kids from reading this but stop reading now...if you are old enough, click ENTER 5 times!)
ReplyDeletehere goes Ange...
"Under the coconut tree! (what did you do?)
There she showed it to me! (what did she show?)
It was so big and hairy (very hairy!)
And it looked like a tunnel to me! (a tunnel?)
I stuck in my hairy banana! (which banana?)
She gave me a scream, so I gave her my cream! Under the coconut tree!!!"
Well, Nina, we learned that from our onaks cousins in LA and sneaky you...you taught that sinful song to your friends!!!:)
Hehehe! I remember those words by heart, to this day! What can I say, Nina, it was a life-changing moment for me! My mind (and my sexuality, for that matter! Hehe!) hasn't been the same, since!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mia, for publishing the entire chant! And thank you, onaks L.A. cousins!
Angie
Love the photos, Angie! I've been going through my old pictures, because I KNOW I have one of Nina, Mia and me back when we were still in STC -- either pre-school or 1st grade! I still can't find it, but I did find a couple of (relatively) more recent ones -- when Nina was in 5th and 6th grades. She might be embarrassed by them, though...I wonder if she'd kill me for posting them?
ReplyDeleteKatrina, I'm just so happy I look so much better now than I did in 5th-6th grade. Anj and Mia, when you teach your kids this wonderful eye-opening song, please do not quote me.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! How can we not quote you, Nins!?! It's your legacy!!! Mwah!
